Search
Use Console search to find assets, users, organisations, contacts, and system contracts you already have access to, without leaving your current screen.
Console search opens over whatever screen you are on, so you never lose your place. It jumps straight to an asset, a user, an organisation, a contact, or a system contract you already know exists, instead of clicking through menus to find it. DALP's Console holds many organisations, each with its own assets and participants; when you already know a token's symbol, a counterparty's name, or a wallet address, search opens its detail page directly instead of a navigation path. Reach for it when you already know roughly what you want; use the relevant listing screen instead when you are exploring what exists rather than looking for one named thing.
It cannot open a settings page, run a workflow, or execute a command on your behalf: a selected result only opens a detail page or copies an address to your clipboard.
Each of the five categories search covers scopes its results differently, and one distinction matters more than the rest: asset visibility follows your own signed-in account, not whichever participant the header shows you Acting asDelegated Authority lets a signed-in operator work inside another party's account. One check decides who may enter; the party's own roles decide the rest.Read the concept. This is different from most of the Console, where switching participant changes what you see on pages like Portfolio and Actions. Search does not follow that switch for assets; it follows you. If you administer several participants and expect a search to reflect whichever one you last switched into, it will not. Running a search changes nothing on-chain or in the platform, so there is no result to undo; it only opens a page or copies text.
| Category | Scope and access |
|---|---|
| Contacts | Your own account, across every organisation you belong to. Anyone signed in can search it. |
| Assets | Active network, organisation, and system. Anyone signed in; a role unlocks the full set, else only owned tokens appear. |
| Users | Active organisation and network. Needs user-search permission. |
| Organisations | Active organisation and network. Needs entity-list permission. |
| System contracts | Active network. Anyone signed in can search it. |
None of the five scope to whichever participant you are Acting as: contacts and asset visibility both read your own signed-in identity directly, and the other three scope to the active organisation and network instead.
What search covers
Console search runs against five categories, and it shows a category's group only when that category has a match:
- "Contacts" lists entries from your personal address book, which stay the same no matter which organisation is active. It still needs the active organisation to have a system to search against; see Troubleshooting if every category comes back empty.
- "Assets" lists tokens visible in the active organisation and network. A privileged caller, meaning anyone holding at least one role, sees the full visible set; anyone else sees only tokens their own signed-in identity actually owns, filtered by ownership rather than by the participant they are acting as.
- "Users" lists participant users, shown only when your role includes user search.
- "Organisations" lists other participants in the active organisation, the same registry behind Entities, shown only when your role includes entity-list access.
- "System contracts" lists platform-registered contracts on the active network, such as token factories and registries, alongside compliance modules, shown by their contract type and address.
A query that matches none of the five categories returns no result, even when the term names a real settings page or menu item; use the sidebar for settings and menu items.
Open Console search
Select "Search" in the Console header, or press ⌘K (hold Ctrl and press K outside macOS; the on-screen badge always reads ⌘K, even on Windows and Linux). Type at least two characters; a shorter query shows "Type at least two characters" until you add another. Results load about 300 milliseconds after you stop typing, not on every keystroke. A dialog opens over the current page and groups results under "Contacts", "Assets", "Users", "Organisations", and "System contracts", showing only the groups that have a match.
Review the results
Read the grouped results. Each result shows its name or address so you can confirm you selected the right record before you act. Each category shows at most 10 results, so a broad query can omit the record you need. The dialog also ranks returned matches against your exact query and can omit a weak match. Narrow the query rather than assuming a miss means the record does not exist.
Select a result
Selecting an asset opens its token detail page; selecting a user opens their user detail page. Selecting an organisation opens its entity detail page when that participant has a provisioned wallet, and otherwise just closes the dialog with nothing left to open. Selecting a contact copies its wallet address to your clipboard; selecting a system contract copies its address the same way. Either copy shows a "Copied to clipboard" toast, or "Sorry, we couldn't copy that to your clipboard" when the browser refuses clipboard access. Neither a contact nor a system contract has a dedicated detail page in the Console, which is why those two categories end in a copy instead of a navigation.
Troubleshooting
Search finds nothing for a term I expect to match
Signal: a query like settings, or another term that names something real in the Console, such as a settings page or
a menu item, returns no result at all. Cause: search only looks inside five categories: contacts, assets, users,
organisations, and system contracts. It never indexes settings pages, workflow forms, or navigation labels, so a query
for a settings page name matches nothing there even though the page itself is real. Fix: use the sidebar or the
relevant listing screen instead; search will never surface these regardless of how exact the term is.
An asset I expect to see is missing
Signal: a token you know exists, and that you believe you should be able to find, does not appear in results. Cause: without broad token visibility, asset results are filtered to tokens your own signed-in identity owns, not to whichever participant you are currently acting as. Switching Acting as to the participant that holds the asset does not change this; ownership is checked against your account, not the active participant context. Fix: sign in as the account that actually owns the asset, or ask a user with broader visibility, such as an auditor or someone with organisation-wide asset access, to run the search on your behalf.
I can't find a user
Signal: a colleague or counterparty you know is registered does not show up under "Users". Cause: user results need your own role to include a user-search permission; without it, that category never populates for anyone but yourself. Fix: without that permission, you can still find your own account by searching your email address or your role name; the Console adds your own record whenever the query matches either, regardless of permission. A wallet address alone will not surface your own account this way. For anyone else, ask an administrator to grant user search, or ask them to look the user up on your behalf.
I can't find an organisation
Signal: a counterparty organisation or participant you know is registered does not appear under "Organisations". Cause: this category needs the same entity-list access as the Entities registry; without it, the category never populates no matter how exact the query. Fix: ask an administrator to grant entity-list access, or open Entities yourself if you already have it, or ask a colleague with access to look the record up on your behalf.
Selecting an organisation result does nothing
Signal: you select a row under "Organisations" and the dialog closes, but no page opens and nothing lands on your clipboard. Cause: that participant has no wallet provisioned yet, so there is no address to copy and no entity detail page to open; entity detail pages are keyed by wallet address. Fix: open Entities and provision a wallet for that record, or confirm you selected the row you meant before assuming search is broken.
Every category comes back empty, not just one
Signal: a query you expect to match something returns no groups at all, not even Contacts, which does not otherwise depend on the active organisation. Cause: search needs the active organisation to have a system provisioned on the active network. An organisation still being onboarded, or one you have switched to on a network it has no system on, returns nothing for every category until that changes. Fix: switch to a network the organisation has a system on, or finish onboarding it, then run the search again.
Frequently asked questions
Can I search using part of a name or address?
Mostly. Contacts, users, organisations, and system contracts match your query as a substring anywhere in the record's name or address, so part of a wallet address or part of a company name is enough. Assets are the exception. A token's name or symbol still matches as a substring anywhere, but a query starting with 0x matches only from the start of the token's address, not from the middle. Drop the leading 0x and the same fragment matches anywhere in the address instead. Your own account has a further exception, matching your email address or role name too, covered under "I can't find a user" above. One more layer sits on top of all of this: the dialog re-scores every backend match against your exact typed text before it renders, so an unusual substring match the backend found can still fail to display.
Why does the search box hint only mention assets and users?
Its placeholder text reads "Search assets or users", but the dialog also runs the query against contacts, organisations, and system contracts: the placeholder names two of the five categories, not all of them. Treat it as shorthand rather than a full description of what the search box covers; typing a contact's name or a system contract's address still returns a match.
Does search cover transactions or on-chain events?
No. Search only covers the categories listed above; it never indexes transactions or on-chain events, so a query for a transaction hash or an event name returns nothing here, even when that transaction is real. Open Activity instead; it has no full-text search either, but its Event filter and Time sort narrow down the same event.
Can I search across every organisation I belong to in one query?
No, not for most categories. Assets, users, and organisations all scope to whichever organisation and network you have active, so switching organisation and re-running the same query can return a completely different set of matches. Contacts are the one exception: they are tied to your own account, not to any organisation, so the same address book returns no matter which organisation you switch into.
Do I need to press Enter to run the search?
No. The query runs on its own, about 300 milliseconds after you stop typing; pressing Enter does not trigger the search itself. What Enter does is choose the selected result, as a click would. The dialog selects the first result when results load. Press Enter without pressing the down arrow and you still open or copy that top result; arrow down first if you want a different one.
